Spring is here and many big name musicians will be coming to Virginia during the month of April. From major country acts to the biggest names in rock and pop, catch your favorite artists and discover new ones all over the Commonwealth.
On April 10-16, the Tom Tom Founders Festival takes over downtown Charlottesville with live music, block parties, food and drinks from local vendors, public art displays, workshops, and talks from innovators in a myriad of startup industries.
The National in Richmond will be bringing a number of big name artists throughout the month. The venue will be hosting pop artist JoJo (April 3), The Decemberists (April 9), country artists Kane Brown (April 12) and Chase Rice (April 13) and PJ Harvey (April 22).
Elsewhere in the city, singer-songwriter Howie Day will perform at the Tin Pan on April 9 while 70s funk group Average White Band will be there on April 19.
Legendary singer Johnny Mathis will be at the Altria Theater on April 2 while the songs of the great Carole King will be performed when “Beautiful – the Carole King Musical” runs April 25-30.
The Beacon Theatre in Hopewell will host Billy Bob Thornton and his band the Boxmasters on April 26.
The NorVa in Norfolk will be hosting acts like JoJo (April 4), Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness (April 15), indie artist Kishi Bashi (April 25) and hardcore band Thursday (April 27).
In Charlottesville at the John Paul Jones Arena, DJ duo The Chainsmokers will perform on April 18. Shows at the Jefferson Theater will include Ben Folds on April 15 and Kishi Bashi on April 26. The Paramount Theater will have rockers Cage the Elephant on April 24. And at the Sprint Pavilion on the Downtown Mall will host Ween on April 20 and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit on April 25 (Jason Isbell will also be performing at the Portsmouth Pavilion in Portsmouth on April 26 and at the Berglund Center in Roanoke on April 27.)
Over in Rocky Mount at the Harvester Performance Center, Carbon Leaf will perform on April 8 while Ben Folds will be there on April 16 and The Lone Bellow plays on April 30.
At Wolf Trap Center for Performing Arts in Vienna, Pat McGee Band performs its 1998 live album “General Admission” for the group’s 20 year reunion on April 21 (The group will also perform at Capital Ale House in Richmond on April 22).
Christian contemporary pop artist Amy Grant will perform at Alexandria music hall the Birchmere on April 5. Also performing this month are Don McLean (April 7), Average White Band (April 21 and 22) and John Tesh (April 30)
