Summer is winding down, but the music festivals in Virginia are only heating up. Check out these music stops to make throughout the state.
Carter Family Traditional Music Festival – Hiltons, Va.
July 31 – Aug. 1, 2015
The 41st Annual Music festival is held the first weekend in August presented in honor of The Original Carter Family, the first family of country music, and commemorating the historic 1927 Bristol Recording Sessions. This year’s festival includes Folk Soul Revival, Big Country Bluegrass, Whitetop Mountain Band, Mountain Park Old Time Band and many others.
Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention – Galax, Va.
Aug. 3-8, 2015
The City of Galax has the world tapping its feet as the Old Fiddlers’ Convention takes place in Felts Park. Musicians and fans from around the world travel to Galax to perform and hear the music that defines the sound of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A few hundred come with their instruments to show their skill, and compete for the cash prizes. On Aug. 4, an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest mandolin jam will be made at the Convention. The record to beat is 414 mandolins.
Richmond Jazz Festival – Richmond, Va.

Experience the world’s best jazz and R&B music set against the beautiful rolling hills of Maymont. Acts performing this year include Natalie Cole, Lauryn Hill, and New Edition.
Blue Grass Valley Music Festival – Blue Grass, Va.

The Blue Grass Valley Music Festival is a family-friendly event that showcases the area’s breath-taking views and a variety of diverse musical acts from rock n roll to old-time to swing to bluegrass and blues.
Staunton Music Festival – Staunton, Va.

Hear 60 of the world’s most acclaimed musicians performing in more than 20 concerts in historic venues throughout downtown Staunton.
Annual AT&T Norfolk Latino Music Festival – Norfolk, Va.

The largest outdoor dance floor in downtown Norfolk heats up at the Annual AT&T Norfolk Latino Festival. Live acts performing salsa, meringue, and guaguanco by local, regional and national recording artists will fill Town Point Park and keep people moving all night.
FunkFest – Virginia Beach, Va.
Aug. 28 – 30, 2015
The State Farm FunkFest features music generated by influential legends such as James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton, and The Ohio Players. The event will take place on a stage on the beach at 24th Street. Music this year features DJ Heart Attack, Zapp Band, Joselyn Best, Larry Graham, and more.
RTE 23 Music Festival – Wise, Va.

A crooked road runs through Route 23 in southwest Virginia celebrating all the old time music that originated in the area. Held on the campus of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, RTE 23 Music Festival brings a diverse mix of artists together for a full day of live music that’s off the beaten path.
Mountain Jamboree at Massanutten – McGaheysville, Va.

Dance the night away at Massanutten’s 6th annual Mountain Jamboree festival. The event features live music, kids’ activities, hoop dance, beer, wine, food vendors, fireworks, and more. Music lineup includes Jackass Flats, Bryan Elijah Smith and the Wildhearts, and Holy Ghost Tent Revival.
