We’re past defining the word selfie, aren’t we? In case we’re not, a selfie is when you take a photo of yourself. Sometimes it’s to show off your new ‘do, pucker up with duck lips, or better yet, to show off what you’re doing. That’s the one we have some ideas for.
After a little digging on Instagram, popular Virginia selfie destinations have come to light. It turns out that folks most like to selfie outdoors with special people, in a special place, or to remember a special moment. So grab a selfie stick, bring some friends to parlay that selfie into a groupie, and get a move on.
1. ON OR NEAR WATER.
Selfies on the beach, in a kayak or on the stream with a fishing pole in hand are common sites. Turn your back to the water and snap a pic.
2. HIKING THE MOUNTAINS
Whether it’s a summit shot or you take a breather on the way up, there are selfie worthy sites in Virginia’s lush mountains.
3. AT A VIRGINIA WINERY
There are more than 250 to choose from. Go!
4. AT A FESTIVAL, CONCERT OR MAJOR EVENT
You’ve waited patiently all year for the next DMB concert, or maybe to meet a NASCAR driver? You surprise your dad with a trip to see the tall ships at Harborfest. Or you try a new flavor at a food festival. Whatever it is, it’s worth the capture to savor the moment.
5. AT A LOVEWORK
Perfect for families, the newly engaged and also for selfies. Check out the Storify below to see how it’s done.
6. AT A HISTORIC SITE
Standing on cobble stones or with the wide breadth of Natural Bridge at your back, Virginia’s historic sites deserve your selfie.
7. AT A VIRGINIA STATE PARK
Paddling the family in the canoe or walking the dog on the trails are cool. But how about reuniting with family after a four-month separation … in thick, wet fog on top of Molly’s Knob? Don’t miss your #selfie moment.
8. AT A VIRGINIA CRAFT BREWERY
Whether it’s riding the Brew Ridge Trail with the top down, or meeting the newest addition to the family with the beautiful views from Blue Mountain, craft beer destinations are selfie worthy, too.
9. ON A BIKE
It’s taken a long time, but you’ve finally gotten on the trail you’ve had your eye on. Better yet, you have your brother alongside you. He hasn’t been around to ride with you. Now he is. #Groupie
10. AT BUSCH GARDENS
There’s always something new at Busch Gardens and this year it’s food and wine. And who could pass up the opportunity to #selfieinthesky from the top of Aeronot Skyride?
