ObscurO Jewelry’s Jill Shropshire has a passion for her craft that shows in every piece she creates. Based here in Richmond, Jill attended VCU and obtained a degree in Fine Art. She focused mainly on stained glass and sculpture, and those elements come through in her jewelry. She uses found objects, like porcupine quills and shark’s teeth. She uses raw semi-precious gems in her work. She has a way with a soldering gun. Her pieces are totally originally, one-of-a-kind, and have an unmistakable rock and roll edge. To use her terminology – something for “the urban mystic in all of us.”
ObscurO Jewelry Kickstarter
Jill has a Kickstarter running right now, and she’s 22 days away from making her goal. Since FunRVA has an interest in all things creative, artistic and fun in Richmond, we choose to use this platform to promote those types of things. To back Jill’s Kickstarter click the image above, or visit https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/294433546/obscuro-jewelry-the-next-bite.
Currently, Jill has 48 backers and has achieved about 68% of her $5,500 goal. Jill, a Mississippi native, is a Master Esthetician at Bombshell in Carytown and a quite talented photographer. The reason she is doing a Kickstarter is so she can order the materials and tools she needs to take her jewelry creations to the next level. As an added bonus, when you back her Kickstarter you will receive a mix CD that features a bunch of fantastic local bands including Goldrush (this post author’s favorite), The Trillions, Eric Hunter & The Distractions , Bio Ritmo, Horsehead (Jill’s fave) and more. The video Jill uses on her Kickstarter campaign page features many of Jill’s friends. This is a great example of how a community and a circle of friends can support one another in the name of art and creativity.
Keep an eye on FunRVA as we tell you about other great projects like ObscurO and continue to promote the arts, entertainment and all things that are fun in the RVA.
